Ram.Rom.Motherboard.Small components in computers have ignited a fire in me from a young age and the flame is still burning. When receiving my first computer at the age of 6 I thought it’d be a good idea to break it apart and explore what was within this machine. I wasn’t able to put it back together though and this sparked an interest in me thinking if I learn how to put this CPU together I’d be able to put anything together.
What blew my mind was the fact that in this day and age all our jobs are easily functional by a computer system. That artificial intelligence had the power to take our income away. Accountants could be replaced with a program that does a few calculations, Warehouses would be replaced by machines sorting different items into their sectors and teachers could be replaced by robots! At this point I knew I had a keen interest in computer science but what was the importance around it? This was why I wanted to study computer science, as I wanted to gain knowledge from the course whilst putting my creative mind alongside it leading me to attain the skills to discover an answer to all universe problems the human race interacts with and giving an explanation. Upon completing this course it will allow me to broaden my spectrum and prepare my career for when I step into the field of work. The challenging structure of it not only goes into detail about computer science in general but also joining similar subjects such as maths, engineering, and finance would really benefit me as not only has this been something, I have been ambitious about, but it will broaden my spectrum but allow me to think outside the box showing me the diverse ways to solve problems.
After completing my GCSEs I went on to study Maths, AS Further Maths, English, and Computer science. The next step was to discover what course suited me best in the computer science sector. Data Analysis was the first to strike my eye as there is a compelling need for skilled people with the ability to understand data. For this very reason, technology professionals with Analytics skills are finding themselves in high demand as businesses look to harness the power of Big Data. A professional with Analytical skills can master the ocean of Big Data and become a vital asset to an organization. Cyber Security also amazed me as it instantly made me imagine myself being a part of a big undercover company protecting everyone. cybersecurity is moving beyond simply an IT responsibility and becoming a core component of a business. This emphasis on cybersecurity is due to the many emerging factors that can make an organizations data vulnerable, such as employee breaches, inadequate firewalls, third-party data sharing, and external attacks., Computer Science and Mathematics was also the main course I wanted to do as my doing levels in computer science and maths was a massive headstart. My knowledge of maths would give me an insight into many ethical situations that may arise around computer science as decoding one language to another using mathematical traits the pattern of the lock could have to get into it. However in all my research, I found that the course Data Science ticked all my demands According to IBM the demand for Data Scientists will increase by up to 28% by the year 2020, which means it is a job in high demand and by me educating myself throughout this course, it will allow me to get the job and make an improvement t society whilst doing my dream job. I did the HE+ program in my first year which not only explained my chosen subject in further detail but also allowed me to have a taste of the wide range of universities and what they have to offer. The university that suited me most for the course I wanted to do was Nottingham Trent university The challenging structure of it not only goes into detail about computer science in general but also joining similar subjects such as maths, engineering, and finance would really benefit me as not only has this been something, I have been ambitious about, but it will broaden my spectrum but allow me to think outside the box showing me the diverse ways to solve problems.
I also carried out a weeks work experience at a global firm Boots, and this involved me working with the computing sector and carrying out research and understanding programming and how technology has come along in the last decade. This experience helped me discover the programming put behind cash registers and how regular updates on these systems are completed. We also carried out a series of trials and improvements to further improve the experience for customers and cashiers whilst using the cash register as we needed to ensure there were no technical difficulties. Since then I have started working at a national supermarket Sainsbury. My role is customer service assistant, and this includes me working with the cash registers. Having carried out work experience at Boots it helped me as I knew how the cash registers worked and how payments are processed. When using a cash register shows me that such a simple piece of machinery could have such a complex programming system and its role is to carry out such a simple task for the embedded system. This prompted me to do research on different types of programs and to further my knowledge in this area even more and understand why embedded systems required such complex programming to function although being very simple whereas multifunctional machines required very similar program styles.
I not only have a positive attitude towards study and am a cheerful student but I have a passion for the chosen course computer science. The A-level course in which I am currently studying Computer Science involves many computing techniques. One of my hobbies is digging into projects. I worked on one from my home with my friend, we produced an RC robot car, and this required me to complete wiring and create a circuit for the robot car. We then had to program it to function the way it was designed using both C+ and visual basic. This task expanded my knowledge giving me a much deeper understanding of how a program is paired with a product and allowed me to see for myself how it was done. This task being completed was a huge learning curve for me as I had seen it through from start to finish and helped me appreciate modern technology and programming, and how it has advanced. This course yet again will not only educate me but will explain in depth the benefits of modern technology and how it has advanced during the past decade from large brick phones to smartphones. When I am free I also like to teach my siblings about what I learn as not only will it give them extra knowledge, but I feel like educating someone with less knowledge is rewarding as not only is it helping my communication skills but it helps me to remember key points as well.
Computer Science has made a big impact on me as a person as it has made me more self-aware of the things that surround me, all the technology making me more appreciative and wanting to learn more about what happens inside all these devices. Also, something I’m very interested in is coding which can advance very quickly in later stages but when solved satisfies me as I have achieved something by solving that algorithm. Overall I feel like I am a proactive student and won’t let defeat drag me down instead it will bring me back stronger and harder. By participating in a field that interests me the most I know I will put a lot of effort into it aiming to strive and do my best. Studying at my chosen University will strengthen my knowledge and educate me, even more, helping me to achieve my dream job and see myself in a successful career.
