The 8th and 9th chapters of the book Communication Between Cultures deal with the verbal and non-verbal communication types and their peculiarities. Both these channels of communication allow people to exchange information and transmit different messages. However, it is necessary to note that both languages and non-verbal signals that are the primary means of these types of communication vary depending on the country they are used in and its culture.

People who want to develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills need to take into account the peculiarities of the foreign languages and cultures and be aware of cultural variations as well. Though with the development of the new technologies the communicational barriers between countries become less noticeable, every country still has its communicational traditions that may be misinterpreted by foreigners (Samovar et al., 2015, p. 292). The material from the book shows the current situation in the communication area since it contains information about the traditional ways of communication and about the impact of modern technologies on it as well. The information from the book may be called trustworthy because, generally, the crucial messages from it are reflected in other sources about communication. Moreover, I communicated with people from other countries, and it is possible to say that our communicational patterns often vary.

Thus, I consider the materials from the 8th and 9th chapters to be true and worthy of attention. I do not have any questions about the reading since everything is understandable and brief summaries at the end of the chapters help focus on their major points. However, I found out a lot of new professional lexis related to the communication process, such as consecutive interpretation, dialects, argot. Their knowledge will help me better understand intercultural communication-related topics and organize my own presentations and essays in a more professional way.
