Unit 8:
Discussion #1: Applying research to practice and developing the skills to synthesize the two are important for a behavior analyst. For this discussion, you are going to evaluate one of the articles presented in this week’s readings as the information applies to providing consultation services within a given environment. Using all of the information presented throughout the term and the text chapters outlined in this unit’s readings, you will critically evaluate the practices described, as well as discuss any additional suggestions that you have for supporting the clients identified within the setting. Consider how you might provide consultation to the families or individuals to achieve and maintain desired target behavior. Be sure to identify which article you are reviewing at the start of your posting and provide scholarly references to support your considerations.
Discussion #2: For this unit’s Discussion post, you will design your own token economy system. You will create a PowerPoint presentation that includes the following components of your system and upload it to your post:
The tokens you will use (with visuals of what they will look like)
The target behaviors and rules for successful task completion
How you will make your system specific or individualized to your hypothetical client
Your menu of backup reinforcers (again, include visuals in your presentation)
Procedures to dispense and exchange tokens
Procedures to follow when token requirements are not met (e.g., response cost)
Ethical and social validity considerations related to your token economy system
You are encouraged to use your creativity and visuals throughout your presentation as much as possible!
Unit 9:
Discussion #1: The application of applied behavior analysis consultation across schools and organizations has similarities and differences with regard to the overall objectives, assessment procedures, interventions, monitoring, and maintenance. In this posting, compare and contrast the use of ABA across these environments, making sure to highlight the similarities and differences within the consultative process. Given this information, explain how you think your approach to consultation would differ across these environments.
Discussion #2: Select one of the interventions you discussed in either your Unit 4 (A school-aged child engages in aggression toward his sibling that results in attention in the form of reprimands from his parents) or Unit 6 Discussion post (A school-aged child engages in disruption in his classroom (e.g., throwing his writing utensils at his teacher and peers) during independent reading time, which results in him being sent to the principal’s office). Using your Cooper et al. (2019) text as a guide, describe how you would plan for generalization of behavior change. Cite specific strategies and tactics covered in your reading that you would use during intervention. Make sure that you discuss how you would plan for multiple aspects of generalization that are relevant to your case (i.e., across time, settings, and/or behaviors).
Unit 10:
Discussion #1: The resources this week each focus on the process of exploring and developing greater cultural competence as it pertains to serving our field of applied behavior analysis. Review chapter 3 of the SAMHSA (2014) resource, with particular attention to the Culturagram on pp. 66–67. Discuss how the processes discussed in this chapter can support the perspectives presented by Fong et al (2016; 2017) as a means to further integrate cultural competency into your practice. What aspects of these readings were particularly helpful to support further development in this area of competency?
Discussion #2: Using the self-assessment model outlined by Beaulieu, L., & Jimenez, G. C. (2022), complete a self-assessment and discuss the results.
How do your results influence your compliance with ethical codes 1.06-1.10 of the BACB’s Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts? How will the results of your self-assessment influence your ethical practice and cultural responsiveness? What steps could you take to continue to build cultural responsiveness within your future practice?
