I am a history student because it provides knowledge of the past and how it shaped America. Through learning about the past, one is able to judge what is right or wrong. History is a type of collective memory consisting of past stories that highlight structures that constitute the present. The history of the United States of America contributed to its democracy because it influenced its territorial expansion, its economy, and the end of slavery.

History in the United States influenced its territorial expansion by contributing to its achievements and some of its issues. According to Foner (2013), the confederation government aided the United States in winning the war, it convinced states to stop claiming western lands and put in place the 1787 Northwest Ordinance. Nevertheless, the history of America that took place between 1783 and 1781 had its problems, and one of them included financial issues. The government had a problem with paying war debts. Moreover, it depended on state donations to run its daily businesses. As a result, America had limited credit and was unable to reduce its foreign trade. Consequently, America failed to comply with the Treaty of Paris because it did not repay its debt. During this time, America had a weak government and was unable to restrict Britain from constructing a military post.

History is an important factor because it influenced the economy of the United States. History states that the late 1780s involved whites in the United States protecting slavery (Foner, 2013). During this time, slavery was an important factor in America because it was a lucrative business. However, this was a destructive business because it involved human beings. With the end of slavery, America was able to venture into other businesses. The country stopped trading in slaves and began selling machinery. These machines could be used to perform tasks that slaves used to conduct. These tasks include farming, cleaning, and harvesting, which are now performed much faster. Currently, machines produce more crops and manufacture more products, which are sold to Americans. As a result, America is currently one of the economic superpowers in the world.

A history marked the end of slavery and resulted in a new world that incorporated every race and nationality. Historical records state that due to the end of slavery, the United States became commercialized because technology became a part of the nation (Hoover, 2016). With slavery, such businesses as crop harvesting were slower. When slavery ended, Americans were able to venture into new technologies that made work easier. From this, crop production increased and, as a result, more cities were interconnected through trading. Consequently, there was an influx of people in the country, which led to the growth of several cities. With the end of slavery, there were several developments. Thus, history is an important factor and it influenced the development of several institutions in the United States.

By understanding American history, people can gain knowledge of how the United States was able to shape its democracy. History includes the failures and successes of a nation because these are the fundamental structures of building a nation. Throughout history, America was able to shape its economy. The country was able to develop reforms that ended slavery. These reforms created opportunities for the country to develop its technology. As a result, the United States became one of the leading countries in terms of its economy.
