Why is the Palestinian question the central focus of Arab complaints against the United States, and do you think that terrorist attacks in our homeland will cease if problems of Palestinian is not resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved?
There exist some areas of close cooperation between the United States and some Middle Eastern states. However, there are areas of serious tensions that have marred this relationship with Arabs and other Muslims in the Middle Eastern countries. These issues include; resentment of the USA over their role in bolstering governments that are deemed to be oppressive or un-Islamic, economic sanctions against some Middle Eastern states, economic exploitation, and the Palestinian-Israeli issue.
This last issue of Palestine has taken a central focus on Arab complaints against the USA. It is because Palestinian efforts at achieving Statehood have long stirred emotions throughout the Middle East. These efforts are, however, hampered by the long-lasting conflict between Palestinian Arabs and Jews is over the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The reason why this is such a contentious issue is that there exists a common perception that the United States of Americas policy is biased toward Israel, and this has been a cause of resentment by most Arabs and Muslims in general. Israel has over the years established a military administration to govern the occupied territories and built settlements despite this constituting a breach of international law.
The fact that the United States continues to support Israel and does not endorse calls for actions such as sanctions against Israel greatly agitates Arab states. While the US is, in fact, one of the key figures in pushing for peace talks between Palestine and Israel, most Arab States feel that the US is indifferent to the suffering of the Palestinian community and that US administrations are not applying significant pressure to Israel on key issues that are of concern to Palestinians. These issues have led to the Palestinian question taking center stage in Arab complaints against the United States.
In my opinion, there is a direct relationship between the terrorist attacks in our homeland and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Since the US is viewed as the Israeli Ally and its primary supporter on the international scene, retribution for the perceived Israeli atrocities against Palestinians by many Islamic militants often takes the form of animosity, and where possible violence, against the United States.
The United States is blamed for supplying Israel with the weapons that are used to strike populated Palestinian areas. As such, terrorists under the banner of nationalism see striking at our homeland as being just since they blame the US for their troubles. I, therefore, believe that terrorist attacks to our country can only cease if the Palestinian issue is resolved to the satisfaction of all the parties involved since only then will the Arab Countries view the US with goodwill
