The Nature Conservancy, Hawaii Program: Background Information

The Nature Conservancy is an organization working across the US since the 1950s to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends (Aloha United Way, 2020, para. 1). The organization is operating worldwide and has protected 119 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of rivers in various parts of the planet (Charity Navigator, 2019). In Hawaii, the program of the nonprofit aims at preserving Hawaii marine life, coastal areas, and native forests by local means (The Nature Conservancy, n. d.). The work with the islands ecology provides background for further conservancy efforts on other territories of the Pacific (Howard & Magretta, 1995).

Consequently, the fundraising efforts are particularly dependent on local organizations and populations, which leads the majority of the nonprofits fundraising campaigns.

Fundraising strategies

Fundraising depends on the contributions of individuals and government, including fundraising events, governmental grants, membership donations, gifts, and federated campaigns (Charity Navigator, 2019; The Nature Conservancy, 2019). As the financial statement of the company in 2019 shows, government grants comprised approximately the fifth part of all contributions, the greatest share of which was dues and individual contributions (The Nature Conservancy, 2019). The nonprofit maximize its fundraising and awareness-raising actions by reaching potential contributors via media and website. They trigger peoples awareness about the planet and encourage them to make gifts and donations in a variety of sums to appeal to populations philanthropic and charitable motivations (Bekkers & Wiepking, 2011). The Nature Conservancy employs long-term funding and supplements funds by loans and life insurance. In conclusion, formulating clear fundraising goals and using multiple funding sources on a local basis allows the nonprofit to achieve success.
