Emotional intelligence is an essential and valuable skill that allows recognizing other peoples emotions and intentions and, to some extent, manages them. This skill helps to solve practical problems and achieve goals in life and at work. People with developed emotional intelligence can negotiate with other people, make decisions and react correctly to adverse situations. A person with a developed emotional intelligence reacts to reasons, not actions or emotions. It helps him correctly perceive criticism, understand other people and respond to them with an adequate reaction. Flexible human skills, closely related to emotional intelligence, are the most critical skills in the present and future.

Emotional intelligence skills are valuable and essential in everyday life, as it allows avoiding various kinds of troubles and conflicts. There was a situation in my life that let me determine my low level of emotional intelligence. I have been interested in a film for a very long time, which was supposed to be released in cinemas in the summer. I had been waiting for the premiere of this film for several months and wanted my close friend to go with me. However, she refused to go with me on the day of the premiere, citing other matters. I was very offended by my friend and even quarreled with her, telling her that she was selfish. We didnt talk for more than a week, and only recently I realized how wrong I was in this situation.

I was too persistent, and I tried to drag my friend to a movie that was utterly uninteresting for her. I accused her of selfishness, although I behaved selfishly and unreasonably because I did not consider it necessary to understand her wishes. Moreover, I was angry that she expected me to understand her feelings. I failed to take my emotions under control and show empathy towards my friend, which led to a stupid conflict. Thus, it is necessary to develop emotional intelligence skills, as they will significantly facilitate interpersonal communication and make it possible to cope with stress.
