The herniated disk disease is a dangerous disease that can occur due to injury or heavy load on the spine. In its process, the integrity of the outer membrane of the intervertebral disc is violated. The herniated disk disease is most common in men between 30 and 50 and all older adults (Cramer & Darby, 2017). There has been a trend to view a herniated disc as the main reason for back pain.

Injury, single or repeated, is the most common cause of hernia. Overloads are associated with an extended stay in one position, and dynamic overloads related to lifting weights (Cramer & Darby, 2017). Along with this, the reasons are a genetic predisposition, the presence of osteochondrosis or scoliosis, an unbalanced diet, and excess body weight. The herniated disk disease can develop anywhere in the spine. Localization will be indicated by shooting or pulling pain at the site of the destruction of the cartilage (Huether & McCance, 2019). In addition, the following symptoms specify a hernia: pain in the limbs, shoulders or chest; weakness in muscles in the legs or arms; headaches, changes in blood pressure, weakness.

Correct diagnosis is essential to choose a treatment regimen of the herniated disk disease. Small protrusions in the intervertebral discs are treated conservatively. The best treatment for the initial form of a hernia is physiotherapy: massage, electrophoresis, manual therapy (Huether & McCance, 2019). Physiotherapy exercises and the prophylactic use of a corset and a bandage to restrict mobility proved excellent. As with other degenerative diseases of the spine, hernias primary prevention is a healthy and active lifestyle.

To summarize, the herniated disk disease is one of the most severe conditions of the spine, which is its degenerative changes. With advanced stages of the disease and the absence of timely assistance, it leads to a complete mobility loss. The herniated disk disease is a frequent companion of people with a sedentary lifestyle. In turn, the treatment of herniated discs is a complex task that requires highly trained doctors.
