Racial Profiling in America has become more common in schools and places where people hold a lot of power even your place of work or in the government, places you would never expect racial profiling to happen is most likely where it happens and it needs to be stopped.February 26th,2012 marked the day African Americans and people of color of both genders realized we were under attack and also the day that all eyes were opened to this problem that was so slept on for a long period of time that problem is Racial Profiling.
When people here African Americans speak on this issue its not just getting pulled over or searched or being punished its the way the authority goes on about it. When this topic is brought up most of the time the definition of racial profiling is unknown,if you are clearly doing something unlawful or wrong and get caught you are not being racially profiled. This is commonly mistaken by a lot of people who scream profiling but the true definition of racial profiling is that the use of race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed an offense. My paper will mostly be about the awakening of racial profiling and how law enforcement is going about it,it will also include how racial profiling is starting to spread through our schools not so much with lawn enforcement but with teachers and administration as well. When it all comes down to it why is racial profiling even a thing and why havent we took action to try and stop this problem after it has gone on for so many years.
Most high power authority claim to see no color or are trained to not see color but their actions have proven wrong like in early March 2018 an unarmed black man was shot at 20 times in his grandmother’s backyard he was suspected of burglary. This man had no weapon he simply couldnt be seen and reached for his iphone which led cops to think that he was reaching for a weapon, what made these cops fire a total of 20 rounds into a person they couldnt see or had no reason to shoot who they didnt question not once they only acted on what they thought they knew the same officers who muted their body camera as soon as they realized they killed an unarmed black man. I would have to say there are plenty of more stories but it is also the people who call the police on suspicious activity,is it really suspicious activity. Would Tamir Rice have played with a actual gun walking around a park pretending to shoot it without a motive or was he just playing like a normal 12 year old boy with a toy gun. Of course a women called it in stated she was sure the gun was fake and 12 year old Tamir Rice was gunned down in a timed 4.03 seconds after the cops got out the vehicle. These are just some of why people think they way they do about cops and racial profiling its not like the African American community is just making up things about higher authority.
When it comes to how the spread of profiling comes to schools you could talk about a range of things from a lot of ethnicities but one that stood out the most is when a African American yale student (Lolade Siyonbola) got the police called on her for falling asleep in her dorms common room and was thought to have broken in. The girl who called the police on her felt like she was in the wrong place and that she did not belong where she was at the time, the was at the time let go by the police after being questioned about her id she she clearly had keys to get into her room. When this was brought to media she was at a loss for words she let the film do that talking but now our problem and rising problems are these things carrying over in Schools in America. With 2 million American kids suspended or expelled from junior high and high schools each year, the Obama administration decided to figure out what the heck is going in America’s classrooms during his presidency. The results of the investigation weren’t pretty Discriminatory policies that push students of color, and those with disabilities, out of the U.S. education system. The administration has now sent guidance that aims to end discrimination and curb out of school suspensions, particularly for nonviolent offenses. But with conservatives arguing that the recommendations go too far, and resources for public school teachers stretched thin, change won’t be easy.
Fifteen percent of students in the report’s data pool were African-American but they accounted for 44 percent of students suspended more than once. The discrepancy was ‘not explained by more frequent or more serious misbehavior by students of color,’ the investigators wrote.
One district, for example, booted more black students than white students to the alternative school, even though both groups had committed a similar number of offenses. Investigators also found policies that weren’t intended to be discriminatory, but ended up having a disproportionate impact on minorities. ‘There’s this idea that young people are pushed out of school for violent behavior, and that’s just not the case it’s things like truancy, cell phone use, not having supplies, and uniform violations, says Thena Robinson Mock, director of the Advancement Project’s Ending the Schoolhouse to Jailhouse Track program. ‘And students of color are punished at higher rates. It’s a fact.’
Reform advocates say that America has a ‘school-to prison-pipeline,’ whereby a combination of overcrowded classrooms, inadequate resources, and zero-tolerance policies force kids out of school and into the justice system. A sixth-grade girl in Austin said that in 2011 she sprayed herself with perfume in class, because bullies were telling her that she smelled. She ended up with a misdemeanor and a $150 fine from law enforcement, which cited her for disrupting class. This problem is even happening in pre school settings,Persist, Even in Preschool
Black students are three times more likely to be suspended or expelled than their white peers, according to the U.S. Department of Education. And in the American South, racial disparities in punitive discipline are even greater. A 2016 report from the University of Pennsylvania, Center for the Study of Race and Education found that 13 Southern states Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia were responsible for 55 percent of the 1.2 million suspensions involving black students nationwide.
These states also accounted for 50 percent of expulsions involving black students nationally, according to the report, Impact of K-12 School Suspension and Expulsion on Black Students in Southern States. The finding most indicative of racial bias is that in 84 Southern school districts, 100 percent of students suspended were black.
And grade school students arent the only black children facing harsh forms of school discipline. Even black preschool students are more likely to be suspended than students of other races, the U.S. Department of Education found. The agency reported that while blacks make up just 18 percent of children in preschool, they represent nearly half of preschool children suspended.
I think most people would be shocked that those numbers would be true in preschool because we think of 4- and 5-years-olds as being innocent. When will this ever stop and will it ever really stop There has always been racial profiling in our history. The problem here is that at some point the ones who are oppressed and discriminated sooner o later will claim why they are treated unequally. There are many examples around the world, but one only has to take a look at how the American society has been designed to realize the great difference between individuals. It was even normal and acceptable to see these differences during the creation of this nation because the ones who supposedly had the power and knowledge of conquering made sure to create a huge division between leaders and subordinates. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, Racial Profiling refers to the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials.Cases of Racial Profiling There are tons of cases of Racial Profiling. Now a days many people are being targeted or attacked by racial profiling. Laws are being passed but not every police officer is following up with it. And because of this more and more people are becoming irritated with the government system. Just because a particular person from a particular race does something wrong, everyone from that race is being discriminated by so-called other races. Racial profiling is getting worst by the years go by, it is becoming a hot topic. Ever since the major attack of September 11, 2001 many people have seen Muslims as terrorists. Racial profiling doesnt just affect Muslims; it affects African Americans and Hispanics. Due to the action of just one individual, and from that individual affects the whole race behind it. It just doesnt make that person look bad it makes theyre race look as bad as they do. That is why African American, Hispanics, and Muslims are being targeted. Racial profiling negatively impacts society. The people has made it clear that the concern on racial profiling is wrong with our core values and principles of fairness and justice. The use of race as the basis for law enforcement decision making clearly has a terrible cost, both to the individual who suffer invidious discrimination.
