The assignment gives the opportunity to compare and contrast the business cycle of 3 different countries and the state of the hospitality service industry. One of the 3 countries must be an oil-producing/mining country, like:
Afghanistan (mining), Algeria (oil), Australia (mining), Brazil (oil), Cameron (oil), Canada (oil), Chile (mining), China (oil), India (mining), Indonesia (mining), Iran (oil), Iraq (oil), Kuwait (oil), Libya (oil), Mexico (oil), Peru (mining), Russian Federation (oil and gas), Saudi Arabia (oil), South Africa (mining), United Arab Emirates (oil), USA (oil), Qatar (gas), Venezuela (oil).
For the other 2 countries, you can select your favorite (touristic) countries/destinations.
Analyse the key economic indicators during the four phases of the last business cycles, including GDP, and its components like consumption, investments, or government spending, show the unemployment rate as well, and the main sectors of the economy and the main drivers of the country’s exports. Show also the inflation rate, the exchange rate development and their impact on national tourism supply and demand, tourist flows, travelling behavior and hotel data in each of the three countries.
Finally show the contribution of the tourism sector/industry to the development of the GDP of the 3 selected countries. Indicate as well how the country’s GDP and the country’s debt level was impacted by the Corona-pandemic and economic lockdowns and by the disruption caused by the armed conflict at the Black Sea. Show the consequences of the higher energy prices as well. Show if in 2022/2023 the macroeconomic and tourism data have reached the pre-pandemic levels again.
Finally show the GDP-growth expectation of the three countries for 2023/2024.
For research: I think the IMF (international monetary fund) may be useful for you.
