Studying ancient history enables individuals to comprehend the origins and the factors that led to our current location. In doing so, it demonstrates how the efforts of ancient peoples to influence their destinies are analogous to the activities in the modern world. The study of ancient history involves in-depth research into the origins of civilizations and practices still emulated today. Even the manner in which people reason can be traced back to far-off antiquity; the current philosophy, morals, and ethics of the western world are all profoundly based on the philosophies of ancient Greece, ancient Rome, and medieval Christianity. The history study enlightens people regarding how happenings in the past contributed to the formation of the world as they know it today. They gain an understanding of who they are and how they came to be, to evade errors and pave more fruitful courses for the future of their communities. This can be achieved by drawing upon the lessons from our collective history. This essay examines the impact of historical events on modern society.
Blood relationship is the key criterion for dividing the family type and the essential premise for researching the family form. In sociology, a family is divided into two categories: the core family and the extended core family (Dai, 2021). These categories are based on whether or not the family members share just a direct blood link. The realization that there is more work to be done to construct a robust extended family came to me due to the establishment of the family structure in the Song dynasty. When it comes to passing on abilities and DNA from one generation to the next, the ethnic background of the ancestors is of the utmost importance (Strayer, 2021). Family is a unifying force, and within families, it is customary for younger generations to care for members of the older generation while also being responsible for the upbringing of their children to secure the succession of the family lineage. When everyone in the family works together toward the same goal, they can succeed in social, economic, and political arenas.
Due to its long and illustrious history of the pharaonic rule, Egypt is not a stranger to rulers who demand unconditional devotion from those under their authority. Toby Wilkinson, a historian, suggests that there are lessons that can be learnt from the Egyptian tradition of leadership, which dates back to the time of Tutankhamun (Kemp, 2018). These lessons suggest that the only thing more dangerous than a dictator is the vacuum he might leave behind (Strayer, 2021). Egypt, one of the oldest civilizations on Earth, has a long history of powerful kings dating back thousands of years. Moreover, ever since the days of the pharaohs, many centuries ago, the history of Egypt includes many instances of oppression of its people, rulers who lasted too long, and an army that was always prepared to put down rebellion and mercilessly maintain stability in the land.
Egypt was an essential contributor to subsequent civilizations growth and the contemporary worlds formation. Egypt is responsible for numerous legacies influencing contemporary life, including architecture, science, mathematics, medicine, and religious practices. They were the ones who first started many of the sports that are still popular today. They participated in various activities, including swimming, archery, rowing, boxing, gymnastics, high jump, handball, weight lifting, and marathons (Kemp, 2018). Most individuals in todays modern society enjoy playing these games, and several are featured at the Olympics and other important athletic events. In the course of Ancient Egyptian history, a significant number of musical instruments were produced, including harps, flutes, and pipes, amongst others. The Egyptians were the first to develop modern forms of entertainment (Kemp, 2018). As time progressed, the Ancient Egyptians significantly contributed to our current way of life. Since I spend a lot of free time participating in sporting activities that are popular among younger people, the Egyptians innovations have taken on an increasingly important role in my leisure activities.
Art in the Byzantine Empire was profoundly influenced by Islamic culture as a result of its connection with that civilization. The growth of Islam and its subsequent military success posed the greatest danger to the empires integrity and the areas it controlled (Haider, 2020). Art, reflecting the political context, evolved into a medium that enabled both sides to engage in conflict and cooperate. As a result of the dynamic nature of the relationship between the two groups and the frequent shifts, they went through, the trading and reworking of motifs and genres emerged as a popular way for people to demonstrate their strength and uniqueness.
Islamic officials having been enthralled by the mosaics of the Byzantine era, solicited the services of mosaicists to assist in constructing the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. For their iconography, Islamic artists frequently looked to Christian precedents. In the meantime, painters working in Byzantium appropriated Islamic elements for their purposes (Haider, 2020). Even though they held differing religious beliefs, those who participated in the event promoted mutual respect for one another and lived together peacefully. It was a demonstration of the unity that can be found in diversity. My current life has taught me to appreciate other people and their beliefs without passing judgment, which has helped me cultivate a peaceful and cohesive community.
The ancient Romans were pioneers in the growth of science and technology in many sectors, producing instruments and methods that have influenced how people in other parts of the world accomplish specific tasks. The Romans were exceptionally skilled in engineering (Antonio et al., 2019). They possessed sufficient knowledge of the physical laws to invent aqueducts and other more efficient techniques for assisting the flow of water. They were able to harness energy from water to power mills and mines (Antonio et al., 2019). In addition, they developed a massive road network, which was a noteworthy achievement at the time. The Romans were renowned for their large-scale engineering projects but devised numerous agricultural tools and procedures.
Due to the Romans extensive knowledge of climate, soil, and other planting-related matters, agriculture prospered during their reign. They developed enhanced techniques for sowing crops, irrigating fields, and draining excess water from them. Farmers continue to employ many techniques, including crop rotation, pruning, grafting, seed selection, and manuring. The Romans used mills to grind the grains they grew in their fields, which boosted their output and employed a significant number of individuals. Roman technological breakthroughs enabled farmers to raise crop yields, increasing the lands worth (Antonio et al., 2019). College students can now host agriculture and technology expos due to the lessons learnt at this event. These expos aim to inform the general audience about how genetically modified products can be obtained using advanced technologies.
Europe was in the dark for hundreds of years before a prince named Charlemagne came along and changed the norm. The elites of the community, who viewed themselves as nobility, were responsible for many of the societal ills (Schleifring et al., 2019). When he initially came to Europe, he presented the concept of a unified identity for all the inhabitants. One of the most notable innovations attributed to Charlemagne was abandoning the gold standard and adopting a single silver currency throughout Europe (Schleifring et al., 2019). The restrictions that deprived the nobles of a portion of their power and provided the peasantry the freedom to engage in trade contributed to the continents economic growth and facilitated business transactions.
Charlemagne, who was angered by the nobilitys sense of entitlement and had deep compassion for the peasants, ensured that those of lower social status benefited in numerous ways from his rule. This event has taught me a valuable lesson, as a result of which I am now more confident in my decisions and have enhanced my decision-making abilities. The experience has taught me that it is feasible to affect positive cultural change without considerable supreme influence as long as one is prepared to exert effort. A shared identity eliminates the necessity for segregation, contributes to achieving a common goal, and advances the cause of equality.
In conclusion, the ancient civilizations that existed all over the world have been shown to have significantly influenced how the present world functions. Modern societies would not have been able to accomplish the level of cosmic exploration made possible by the development of education, scientific inquiry, and technological innovation in todays society. The modern world has been allowed to reexamine techniques used to obtain freedom due to the death, humiliation, persecution, and battles that occurred in the past. It has been a significant factor in helping international leaders to rectify errors made by previous rulers that were detrimental to the rights of human beings; therefore, it has played an essential role in this regard.
