Femicide is a widespread lethal form of violence against women (Sorrentino et al., 2020). The selected journal article focuses on the risk factors associated with femicide cases of Italian victims (Sorrentino et al., 2020). Moreover, a link is established between different age groups of the victims and the probability of experiencing fatal incidents. Over the last decade, the researchers conducted an extensive resource review to seek information regarding femicide cases in Italy (Sorrentino et al., 2020). The ultimate goal of the review included identifying the total number of victims along with the major age categories. The research involved studying the characteristics of all of the variables involving the victims and the perpetrators.

Once the data had been gathered, the following process included its analysis. The investigation identified the victims intimate partners as the crime perpetrators in accordance with the previously conducted international studies (Sorrentino et al., 2020). This phenomenon could be explained by the female victims inability to end violent relationships or their partners already having a criminal record. In the case of the perpetrators, reports showed that a vast majority had experienced jealousy and uncontrollable anger prior to attacking their partners (Sorrentino et al., 2020). Furthermore, significant differences were outlined between women of various ages. A higher percentage of older perpetrators and younger victims was calculated (Sorrentino et al., 2020). Ultimately, the researchers emphasized the slight decrease in femicide rates over the past few years, suggesting an improved Italian criminal justice system.

Consequently, the article review has demonstrated the topic of femicide and one aspect of its empirical research conducted over the last decade. The key takeaways include the significance of highlighting the different variables involved in the crimes and their interchangeability over time. Although the selected study has emphasized a decrease in femicide rates over the years, its statistical data demonstrates the importance and relevancy of the issue to this day.
