The motivation for American citizens to lose weight and adopt healthy lifestyles can be found everywhere including public health advertisements, popular media, and social settings. However, obesity among American adults is still on the rise across the country. In order to motivate individuals to adopt the proper diet and lifestyle, this issue should be de-politicized. Currently, the issue of obesity in America is somehow debatable and this should not be the case. For instance, most of the debate concerning obesity in America revolves around the issues of discrimination against overweight individuals as opposed to other relevant matters concerning the condition. Individuals across America should view obesity as a health factor and not as a body image issue. Most of the people who suffer from obesity are often discouraged to pursue nutrition and exercise because their bodies cannot achieve a particular look. A persons Body Mass Index (BMI) should be the only determinant of a healthy body size, and not the socially construed aesthetic standards. Consequently, individuals should work towards being healthy and not in relation to becoming thin. Simplifying the goals of nutrition and exercise would motivate various individuals because it eliminates the chances of failure.
