How does leadership fit into providing and coordinating care?

The reference to leadership in the field of nursing is important to explain how nurses should provide and coordinate the care in hospitals and clinics. While discussing leadership as a practice of influencing other peoples actions and behaviors, it is possible to state that leaders are principal organizers and evaluators of the working process (Huber, 2013). From this point, the task of leaders is to manage the process of providing the care and focus on coordinating it because it is important to realize the constant control over the actions of health care providers to achieve the high-quality performance (Scott & Miles, 2013). Thus, leadership is important to guarantee that the goals of the care are completed.

Discuss why inspiration, trust, communication, and action are each a component of leadership

Leadership includes such components as communication with the staff, inspiration, trust, and actions. Communication is important to be discussed in the context of leadership because a good nurse leader is a perfect communicator who can share ideas and values and receive feedback. Inspiration also plays an important role because leaders should motivate employees to demonstrate high results and improved performance (Huber, 2013).

However, employees will follow leaders only when they trust them and understand their values and priorities. The mutual understanding between leaders and followers is significant to guarantee productive relationships (Hutchinson & Jackson, 2013). Still, the action is also important because even the most effective communication that is not supported by actions cannot be discussed as appropriate. Leaders are not theorists, but they are practitioners.

Discuss the characteristics of exceptional leaders. Be sure to cover diagnosing, adapting, and communicating; as well as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management

Exceptional leaders in the field of nursing are those who demonstrate the developed skills in diagnosing or solving cases, adapting to situations, and communicating in order to guarantee to understand. Leaders need to be professionals; therefore, much attention is paid to their skills in diagnosing and identifying problems to solve. Furthermore, leaders need to adapt their behaviors and visions to different situations in order to demonstrate their flexibility (Mannix, Wilkes, & Daly, 2013). Good leaders are also exceptional communicators to share ideas and solutions. Also, nurse leaders need to demonstrate their skills in self-awareness because they should analyze their mood to communicate effectively. They also should focus on self-management in order to control the impact of the mood on interactions (Huber, 2013). What is more important is that leaders need to be aware of other peoples moods and feelings. This skill is necessary to succeed in relationship management and conflict negotiation.

What does the term professionalism mean in relationship to leadership and management?

Leadership is also associated with the term professionalism which means the perfect performance as a specialist in a certain field and the specific approach to performing duties (Huber, 2013). Those leaders who can be discussed as professionals demonstrate the commitment to their work, and they follow the highest standards for their performance. Nurse leaders demonstrate professionalism when they are good at performing their duties, as well as organizing and coordinating the working process.

Ask students, How do you see leadership assessment now, versus how do you anticipate seeing it once you are practicing? Why is communication an important part of leadership?

The leadership assessment can seem a non-efficient task if performers do not understand its role in personal and professional development. However, when the first steps toward becoming a leader are made, the assessment can demonstrate what areas require further improvement and what achievements can be observed at the current stage. Also, it is possible to discuss communication as an essential skill of a leader. Communication should be regarded as the component of leadership because it is based on relationships, and productive interactions are almost impossible without well-organized communication when followers accept the leaders ideas.
