The primary aim of many nonprofit organizations is usually to help those in need, which can only be achieved with the fruitful cooperation of the board and CEOs. In other words, it seems vital to achieve collaboration that focuses on reaching the same goals, and where every member shares the same motivation to work with no financial rewards. Overall, the outstanding relationship between board and CEOs can be built only on trust and united purpose that every member of the organization sees as their primary work goal.
Furthermore, as the generated income of the organization is in no way distributed between its members, the relationships between the workers have to be professional and not serve as obstacles to outstanding work performance. That is why if I were the chair of a board, I would consider the alignment of priorities with the CEOs, which seems to be the primary aspect that can contribute to the companys success (Sandilands, 2017; Worth, 2022). In addition, it is vital to control the power, considering that the passiveness of the board can yield too much authority to the CEOs (Sandilands, 2017; Worth, 2022). However, as in any organization, it is vital to balance the opinions and come to united conclusions that cater to the needs of both sides (Worth, 2022). Naturally, sometimes boards values and priorities may be dynamic and change due to the alterations in the strategy or goals, but the CEOs still need to see the reason in them (Sandilands, 2017; Worth, 2022). The distribution of the tasks is also of utmost importance because the board should focus on long-range goals and require the CEOs to accomplish short-term plans.
On the contrary, if I were the CEO of the nonprofit organization, I would seek a trusting and reliable board with members who share the same vision of the companys future. To achieve success, it is significant to have a high tolerance for the debates and discussions that usually occur with the board (Worth, 2022). However, the board should seek conclusions that cater to all the members needs and priorities despite any arguments (Worth, 2022). The ideal board would also have more responsibilities and power within the organization, which is why the members should be professional and experienced (Worth, 2022). The reason for it is that the nonprofit organization is hard to operate as it does not financially benefit workers, so the board should maintain reliable sources of donations and be trustworthy.
As already mentioned, the existence of nonprofit organizations is based on the willingness of people to achieve the same goals because they benefit them in non-monetary ways, which are still valuable. That is why when I worked as a volunteer in the organization that helped my neighboring community, I was inspired to help my friends and my family who lived there. The aim of the organization was to allocate the revenues to provide the community with the provision, work and education opportunities, and other necessities. Frankly, the lack of salary was not an issue because the work I did still benefited me, which was my primary motivator and the reason for me to come to work and fulfill my responsibilities. The fact that I helped my close ones inspired me and encouraged me to work hard, and enhance the wellbeing of my neighboring communitys members.
