The blossoming of technology has influenced modern society and its citizens in a way that the lives of citizens are dependent on technology to a great extent. People use technology mainly for their social and recreational purposes. As of recent, many youths engage excessively in trending mobile games. Although keeping engaged in this activity can widen interaction between other gamers, it negatively impacts day-to-day social interaction. Often, it can lead to the destruction of bonds between one’s family and friends. Mobile game addiction can reduce a persons social skills, making them socially awkward and difficult to reach out to. Hence, more social disorders such as depression and anxiety. It constricts an individual to think small and become non-beneficiary to ones own family and in wide the entire community. It is too costly to lose our youths to the complications of mobile games.

Of course, a little drag of fun does not harm anyone. Similarly, despite the intense pressure for academic excellence for youths, mobile games are a break from the monotonous schedule and a refresher. A 2018 case study states that playing mobile games enables the mind of the players to be more active. Playing for adequate duration aids in the proper functioning of the brain and builds focus, improving efficiency in other areas such as academics. However, mobile games have profound addiction capacities which is a prominent case of concern even at the policy level, resulting to the extent of having to ban games.

Mobile games make players addicted to them as a part of their business propaganda but adversely impact the youths in terms of losing efficiency in their primary objective, aggression and relationship issues, and wastage of time. Mobile phones, video games, electronic tablets, and all those materialistic addictions ruin the natural purity of life so better we try to differentiate between natural and synthetic happiness (Pari, 2008). In the 21st century, one of the leading services today is mass media, especially those appearing on the Internet. Using the Internet to meet learning needs and research is indispensable for todays students. However, apart from the surface to meet the practical needs for academic life and work, many students fall into the tentacles of its addiction. This means that they are compromising their studies, play, and social life to play mobile games on their mobiles, keeping aside all useful tasks. Despite affecting studies and the health of teenagers, the addiction to mobile games has unwanted psychological effects too. Moreover, they are concerned for society, since people who are addicted undergo insomnia, damage visual health and academic performance.

One common effect of mobile game addiction is isolation and withdrawal from social experiences. Mobile game players often hide in their homes for days at a time only, reemerging for the most progressing task and necessitate. The effect of this isolation can lead to a breakdown of communication skills and often loss of interest in social interaction, as a result, the social networking in online games often provides the user the impression that they are left out of many social activities and their true social lives and personal relation suffers a lot.

Mobile game addiction may result in a decline in several health and hygiene. Players who interact with mobile games for such a significant amount of time can go entirely without eating and even longer without basic hygiene tasks such as using the restroom or bathing. The effects of this behavior pose significant threats to overall health.

Besides physical health, addiction to mobile games can lead to mental health issues. A child may become depressed, moody, angry, aggressive, or violent when he is unable to play. Violence can be manifested in a variety of ways, although the most frequently used is attacking, which means demonstrating disrespect in uniquely rude manners to the people around a person. Constantly, the players overcome the psychological barrier and develop the desire to harm instead of being an up-stable character. One of the most detrimental effects of playing violent mobile games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), Defense of the Ancient (DotA), and Mobile Legends is the increased waste of study hours. This is one of the side effects of mobile games on teenagers.

Playing mobile games for long hours can affect a students performance in school. Young learners in college fail to submit their assignments on time and they eventually land up copying from other friends, thus creating poor academic learning. They replace their reading time with the excitement of mobile games. Many students waste their study hours and fail to sit for the exam(s). Poor academic performance destroys their career, and some students even go to the extent of committing suicide.

To conclude, addiction to mobile games is leading to negative impacts on the social and individual cognition of young learners. This emerging crisis of addiction to mobile gaming can be controlled through parental guidance, value-based education, and improved physical recreational infrastructures. Students should not compromise their studies for such eSports. They should not be addicted enough to damage their visual health and spoil their career due to poor academic performance.
