Indeed, lessons we learn from the obstacles and challenges we face in day-to-day life play an important role in achieving success in the future. I personally can attest to this since I myself have been lucky to learn valuable lessons from some of the challenges that I come across.

One which I think is very significant and has even contributed to shaping who I am today was the passing of my father who I solely depended on after my mother had passed on several years earlier. I was twelve when I lost my father and seven when I lost my mother. To say that I was depressed, felt lonely, and lost would be an understatement. I lost my sense of direction as I drowned in self-pity and uncertainty about my future and that of my brothers and sisters.

We were seven in number and had to be separated since no relative of ours was able to take us all in. As a result of this, I became withdrawn and even started doing poorly in my academics. Everything was just so overwhelming.

Being one of the best students in my class, this did not go unnoticed by the teachers. One day, one of the concerned teachers called me and talked to me. She persuaded me to open up to her and explain what was troubling me. In the end, I opened up to her and told her everything; my worries, fear, and uncertainties. She asked me three questions that snapped me out of my daze&Would your parents have wanted you to be this way? &if you go on like this, where do you see yourself in ten years? &Is not everything Gods plan? I meditated on these questions for days and some of the answers were not pretty at all.

I was forced to evaluate the outcome of being the person I had become after I lost my last parent. I discovered that the outcome was not appealing at all. I, therefore, decided that the time had come to change my outlook on life. I learned that my future is something I have control over depending on how well I prepare for it now. Letting setbacks dictate me or define my life would not do the job for me.

With a new wave of energy, I re-found my sense of direction, picked myself up, and gained my usual spark. I became a whole different person. The topic of losing my parents at an early age also became less sensitive. I even made a huge comeback in my studies too.

This experience also taught me that I should be strong and optimistic always no matter how bad things may seem to be moreover as a believer I should never lose hope in God.
