Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest and most recognized spiritual leaders globally, was born on the 2nd of October, 1869. Gandhi became instrumental in fighting for Indias independence using non-violent means as well as championing for his people. This belief encouraged many to start using non-violent kinds of resistance. This was evident when he led the revolt against the salt tax in 1930; whereby, the match to the sea represented getting salt from the sea.
When it came to politics, Gandhis influence led to the promotion of justice as his acts helped to show the plight of the oppressed and what their oppressors used to do to them. During his last years, the events that took place between India and Pakistan forced him to be actively involved in finding ways of preventing the bloodshed between Muslims and Hindus from escalating. This is one of the things that led to his brutal assassination in 1948.
