First of all, it is possible to say that with the help of Emilys house, the author wants to show the complexity of the life of woman in society. In the first lines of the work, it is described as lifting its stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the gasoline pumps-an eyesore among eyesores (Faulkner para. 2). The author creates the image of the house with the help of personification for readers to understand its important role in the story. It serves as the symbol of mental illness and death. Emily is imprisoned there and she has to spend her life in this house as it was all that was left to her (Faulkner para. 27). Being not able to change her destiny, Emily dies in the house and, moreover, she buries the only person who is close to her there.
It is possible to say that there is a great number of other resources in this work. The author creates the image of Emily in order to underline her doomness and tragic destiny. Being the representative of the old generation she has no perspectives and the author underlines it.
