Imagine that you are a film critic writing a review to a newspaper.
Without summarizing the plot, answer the following two questions in essay form 1: What is this film about/what is it trying to say?
2: How does the film convey its message? To answer question one, you will raise one or two themes. For example: in the film Daybreak, possible themes are: Industrialization/Shanghai the City/The Urban Underbelly/Sex Work/Revolution. Please make sure that the themes are related to the cultural and social context of the film.
To answer question two, discuss how the film portrays the theme/s you identified by use of, for example, Symbols: the necklace/the bird/ Tropes: the painted lady/the evil boss; Cinematography, Editing, Acting, Mise-en scene.
