I would like this written to sound a bit more professional but not too professional and put together in APA format. This is a self critique on my assignment. It should be a page. I’ve attached it below.
Overall I think I did a decent job with my motivational interview I feel like I get a good job my introduction speak up my client I think I could’ve questioned him more like I could’ve asked him about you know it’s for a basketball team in our clearly he’s wearing a Los Angeles Lakers or or shirt in the video so that would’ve been a good way to go in different question with him or asking open ended question. I feel like my client was very comfortable with me and able to express himself and him just speak on his struggles and his situation and let me know what he’s going through and expressed his frustrations about his schoolwork and you know his time management and wanting to get in contact with a tutor I think my body language was good I feel like I was coming off a bit aggressive like my facial expression’s seemed judge mental to me. I could’ve gotten my client to open up more about his routine I could’ve asked him more questions specifically about school like relationships that he has with his peers his friend groups and his extracurriculars and his relationship with his teachers or with different staff members I think and I could’ve gone into more detail with him just to see what his relationship is like at school. My Colombo approach with my client I think I did a good job with that because I got him to open up about how he really feels about his situation he seemed very honest and transparent with me about how he feels about it like he said in the video the right thing to do seems to be hard and the most difficult but the wrong things to do seems to be so easy and almost as if it’s the right thing to do as I feel like he really expressed his frustrations with me on that he seem like he was very comfortable talking to me and letting me know how he really feels when it comes to deciding to pick the right path or the wrong path knowing that which one is better for you and which one is the worst and what happens if you don’t change. A mistake I definitely notice that I made was when I missed an opportunity to give my client feedback at the end I should’ve given him feedback and went in to some more detail with him on what we talked about I should have provided him with more clarity and summarized with him more I could’ve given him a reflection at the end and also let him know that I was listening and that I understood what he was saying that I’m here to help him and be of assistance. Some positive things that Phil and Claire mentioned is how I did my introduction and I asked my client for permission before taking any notes. They also said I demonstrated great open ended questions about my clients time management and I got my client to open up and that I had great reflective listening skills. Phil pointed out how I used summarizing with my client and letting him know that kids his age are also going through some of the similar things. Claire recognized how I used decisional balancing. I gave my client two choices with pros and cons and let him make the decision on which path that he would take. There are some things I can improve on so I can be better in the future but for the most part I think I did a pretty good job with my client and I look forward to doing my next motivational interview.
