Introduction
According to Christina Rossettis poem titled uphill, it is evident that she doubts if one time the faithfulness will have everlasting rest. Her way of thought in the first stanza shows the readers an indication of hope for the faithful, but a tough and long journey. In the end, there will be reward and everlasting comfort when the faithful ones shall joyfully rest from the tough labor and toil, which resulted from the sins of our forefathers since the creation of the universe. However, through the death of Jesus Christ and his resurrection, we are assured that death does not have power over us anymore. The only task before us is to accept that Jesus Christ was crucified, died resurrected and ascended to heaven to prepare a place for the faithful so that one opportune day, we may join him in heaven so that we can also have a rest.
Main body
Down in the second stanza, she perceives how the night would be promising the readers that they should not miss that chance. However, from the Christian teachings especially about the Martyrs who are already in the Promised Land awaiting for the reckoning day to embrace the faithful work done by the Remnant Church Leudekia. The Martyrs were troubled and tempted in many ways after the fall of Satan from heaven due to competition. Lucifer who was the heavenly torchbearer angle felt that having an opportunity to hold the light was of high importance that all had to obey that fact. It reached appoint when God commanded the devil, a cursed name after God withdrew the powers. In addition, God empathized with the world and its content for the devil had been dropped to the world. With gods intervention, we still have faith and hope likewise to the poet who is persistent in her pursuit to know more about how wonderful and marvelous the place will be, on remembering the statement from Jesus that he went to prepare us a place. However, if it were not for our sins, he would have told us though, he will return to collect the faithful who shall have kept the commandments of his Father in heaven.
Through her expressions within the poem, Christina supports and sustains the passion to reach the promised land. However, the picture that the readers depict from the poem is enough evidence of surety that her characters are as per the commandments; for instance, when she questions how the procedure that will be used at the heavenly gates, should people knock at the door or call. Other than that, how long will the faithful be standing at the doors, such questions are expressions that can only be perceived by the dedicated faithful who are aware of their deeds with respect to the demands at the heavenly gates. In addition to that, she might have had a vision of how to grant the home is in comparison with the huge population in the world struggling with the harsh situations and tempting conditions. Given that, the easy way to eternity is full of hurdles that require the manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit, dedication to prayers and have a proper relationship with the word of God that should be like the mirror through which we confirm and correct our relationship with the creator who is also the Heavenly Father (Rossetti, p. 1).
The bible says that the gift of the Holy Spirit is eternal life and the wages of sin is death. Christina yearns for the day that she will be able to receive the total sum of her labor, which to her is the reward from God for the hard work that she ever did during her stay in a world full of challenges. However, the Bible indicates that if God is for us then who can be against us. With the love of God, she is more concerned with ten comforts that people will have in heaven especially beds. She is worried if there will be enough beds to cater for the many faithful who shall gather in heaven. Gods love is one of the corrections that Jesus did to the laws of Moses in the old testament, Jesus said that he never came to destroy the laws of Moses but to fulfill them, for example with love you can never covet your neighbors property neither shall your neighbor covert your wife. Stealing would be a forgone case due to the fact that you love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Conclusion
The poem is not only teaching to the readers and other poets with Christina inclusive. However, a psychological instrument inspired into the poet by the power of the holy sprint to guide the faithless individuals who sometimes act against Gods wish. Moreover, they still have time to prepare and devote themselves to God; our loving Father in heaven never fails. His time never passes by regardless of how long we wait. In fact, Gods years are like seconds and vice versa. Therefore, we should be patient like Christina Rossetti and the five brides who were waiting for the bridegroom with extra paraffin in their lamps due to the inability to approximate Gods time of which even Jesus Christ testified that the hour is near, but no one knows a party from his father in heaven (Rossetti, p. 1).
