Art has consistently been a prominent form of self-expression, even from the most primal to the most chaotic times in human history, as it depicts the most relevant topics and issues of the time. creations. One of these aforementioned modern forms of expression includes music, a platform on which singer Elton John has been known to speak his mind relentlessly. Elton John is a renowned composer and musician, born in 1947 in England. His music focused on the concept of former encounters he went through, as well as prominent concerns of his time period. Throughout his career, he contributed quite a lot to the industry. Still a well-known figure in todays society, he has been working with multiple organizations such as the AIDS Foundation. One individual who feels this most, Elton John, decided to express how celebrities are victims of their own fame. He portrays them as the victims of their success throughout his tribute song, Candle in the Wind, rather than the ones who benefit, and essentially thanking them for partaking in the struggle known as being famous. A very influential pop artist, Elton John also battled depression throughout his career. His substance abuse problem might be a reason he had a tribute song to Marilyn Monroe, who also faced a similar issue.

As for the general song lyrics, I believe that they effectively portray the difficulty of being famous. He opens up the song by saying Goodbye Nora Jean, referring to Marilyn Monroes real name. She was going through a plethora of issues including depression during her career as an actress. Moving along, he mentions how even though he never knew her at all, he still understood he better than most. In other parts of the tribute, he explains how lonely she really was; no one recognized her pain. He expresses how Marilyn was found in the nude, shedding light on how there was much to reveal concerning the celebrity. She was going through a lot that the public was not sufficiently cognizant of.

The brutal reality is that fame is never nearly as clean or enjoyable as it seems to be portrayed by the media. Naturally, one of the most sought-after characteristics of the average human being is fame. From kings to celebrities to comedians, we as people seem to gravitate towards a desire for fame, and a want to be in a position of power or respect, not realizing the sacrifice it takes to be in such a position or the fact that those people are flawed humans as well. The truth is, fame is a curse, one that we should thank our celebrities for withstanding and be grateful that we dont undergo the same.
