Alcohol has been around for a long time alcohol is considered a drug and it is a very popular drug, to say the least. Its side effects as some might call them are what people like most about alcohol. Alcohol’s side effects are very dangerous especially when paired with the driving task that can be one of if not the most dangerous thing on a roadway. Almost every day 30 people in the USA die from drunk driving. Just about every 50 minutes another person dies to a drunk driver or dies in a drunk driving crash. In the last century, numbers have dropped down a third from what they used to be. Drunk driving crashes claim more than 10,000 lives per year. The costs of all of these drunk driving accidents totaled out to 44 billion dollars a year. Alcohol affects your thinking, judgment, and control of your muscles causing the driving task to be very hard while drunk. Driving while drunk is a crime that can take your license for 6 months on your first offense and can cause you huge fines for every offense you have. A DUI as they categorize it is when you get caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Drivers are forced to make hundreds of decisions for every mile they drive so when a driver is under the influence of alcohol their vision can become impaired their judgment skills can become flustered and they all can become dangerous drivers on the roadway which causes tons of crashes every year. Nearly 29 people per day die in drunk driving accidents or drunk drivers. The highest percentage of drunk drivers are between the ages of 22-44 years old. Over 1.1 Million people are arrested per year for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Drunk driving accidents increased by 3.4 percent during the night rather than during the day. Approximately 800 people are injured each day in drunk driving accidents, totaling 290,000 alcohol-involved traffic accident injuries each year. The majority (67%) of fatal crashes involve a driver with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.15 or higher twice the legal limit. Teens shouldn’t think that they get off the limit because they are underage. Once you have a DUI you get a device put in your vehicle that you cannot start your ignition unless you take a breathalyzer test then you can turn your key and start the ignition but if you do not pass it will not allow you to drive or operate your vehicle.

In many states, the drivers are forced to pay for the injuries of the person that they get hurt. If a drunk driver kills a person and lives they can get put in jail for manslaughter. For many drivers their insurance will go through the roof the second they cause a drunk driving accident or if they are in a drunk driving accident. You always hear those stories on the news about someone who has been injured or killed due to a drunk driver. You might go to a friends house or out to eat and have a few drinks and once its time to go or move to a new location, you get behind the wheel. Next thing you know there are red and blue lights flashing in your mirrors and you are in a world of trouble. Most people who drive after theyve been drinking think that they are okay to drive. Even if it is under the legal limit, your license can still be taken. Overall drunk driving has been a problem in the United States almost since cars were invented. Cars have many different ways that a driver can end up wrecking and or getting someone killed with it. If you see or encounter a drunk driver you should immediately call the cops describe the vehicle and why you think the driver of the vehicle is on drugs or is drunk out of their mind and find a safe spot away from the drugged or drunk driver to pull over and or get home safely.
