Summary of Social Problems

Human beings in different communities encounter numerous conditions. Most of these conditions are usually unbearable or undesirable. Such social problems are encountered in every part of the world (Crosson-Tower, 2012). The first condition covered in class is homelessness. Many people across the globe do not have a place to live (Crosson-Tower, 2012, p. 35). Homelessness affects street families, abused children, and immigrants.

The other social problem is domestic violence. This problem occurs when individuals in a specific family are abused by their parents, guardians, siblings, or relatives. Domestic violence affects many people in different societies. Many victims of domestic violence do not report such abuses. Young children are abused by their guardians, relatives, and neighbors. Forms of abuse include forced labor, rape, and punishment. Addiction is also another problem affecting adolescents, the elderly, and adults (Crosson-Tower, 2012, p. 37). Addiction arises from continued use of drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol.

Domestic Violence

This problem affects many individuals in different families. Domestic violence occurs when a person is abused by another in the same family (Crosson-Tower, 2012, p. 15). This form of violence is common in relationships, marriages, and families. Domestic violence takes different forms such as sexual, economic, emotional, physical, or verbal abuse (Crosson-Tower, 2012, p. 19). Physical abuse can eventually result in death (Crosson-Tower, 2012).

Individuals in the same family can also abuse one another verbally. This form of violence is usually unreported due to fear. Children brought up by abusive parents tend to become disoriented. Victims of violence might eventually develop new complications such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). New laws have been put in place in order to deal with this problem.

Website One: Domestic Violence in the United States

The website www.cdc.gov highlights the major health issues affecting many American citizens. According to the website, violence is a major health issue in the US. Domestic violence affects many people in the country. The major causes of this problem include drug use, inequality, and mistrust. New studies are also being conducted in order to understand the issues influencing this problem. The government uses different actions in order to deal with domestic violence (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).

Members of the society are encouraged to report incidences of domestic violence. New laws have also been established in the country. However, these actions have not produced the best results. The American government should sensitize its people about the importance of reporting different forms of violence. An awareness campaign will encourage more people to tackle this problem. Abusers should also be punished accordingly (Crosson-Tower, 2012). People should be ready to protect their friends, neighbors, and relatives.

Website Two: Domestic Violence in the Globe

The second website is www.unicef.org. According to this website, many children are abused in different parts of the world. Children are usually weak and incapable of defending themselves. Many children are abused by their parents, guardians, housemaids, and neighbors. Domestic violence affects the lives of many children. Some factors such as drug use, genetic makeup, social conditions, gender, and lack of proper support are associated with this problem (UNICEF, 2015, para. 4).

Many individuals in the developing world are affected the most by this problem. UNICEF is currently using different strategies in order to deal with this problem. Some of these approaches include policy advocacy, child protection, and education on social equality (UNICEF, 2015). New efforts are required in order to protect more children from domestic violence. Parents and guardians should support their children instead of abusing them.
