Introduction

The purpose of this project was to investigate the effect of exercise on the reduction of falls in adults compared to the absence of such exercise. Two variables of interest emerge from such a research topic at once, namely the frequency of falls in retirees, recorded as recording each case during the month in an annual review, and changes in exercise balance recorded as attendance at weekly programs.

Discussion

Data collection for each variable is an essential aspect on which the reliability and validity of the result ultimately depend. Healthcare providers nurses and physical therapists will be involved in the collection, the motive for which is to be able to optimize adult patient treatment and recovery by detecting data-driven outcomes. Both variables are measured on a continuous numerical scale, so standard statistical tests are available for their analysis.

One of the basic steps in statistical analysis is descriptive statistics, which involves calculating measures of central tendency and measures of variation. With such data, it becomes possible to determine surface patterns for each of the variables, namely, for example, the average number of falls and exercise visits. However, descriptive statistics alone are not sufficient to determine the relationship between the variables (Amrhein et al., 2019). In particular, descriptive statistics do not provide information on exactly how the variables are related because they describe them separately. In order to evaluate the relationship between them, a regression analysis must be performed. The fundamental assumption of such an analysis is the continuity of the variables, which is supported by the data collected (SL, 2021).

Conclusion

It is possible to use MS Excel SPSS, or any other statistical program that can identify the nature of the relationship, to perform a regression analysis. More specifically, the regression analysis will provide insight into whether the model constructed is generally significant, as well as exactly how the independent factor affects the dependent variable (SL, 2021). This will determine whether or not there is an increase in the number of falls among retirees with more exercise.
