At the moment I am doing VET in community service cert. Engaging in community service provides students with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service enables learners to gain life skills and knowledge, as well as offer a service to those who need it most. I know I want to work in community service but I have no clue in which area I want to work in exactly.
I chose this particular trade as my career pathway because I like helping other people who need help and back in then I used to take look after my grandmother who was 100 years old she didnt want to leave with us so I had to go live with her but she died last year with 105 years old. So I thought that would be the right choice for me to work in community services as I kinda of have experience in it even though is different from the way they look after them here.
To protect myself in the workplace I will have to understand the risks in order to reduce my risk of work-related injury or illness such as reducing workplace stress, taking regular breaks, avoiding stooping or twisting, and using mechanical aids whenever possible.
There are many different types of Community service qualities that are looked for in an apprentice but it depends on the career that you are interested in, such as a Diploma of Community Services Case Management, Diploma of Community Services, Diploma of Youth Work, Diploma of Alcohol Other Drugs, Certificate III in Home and Community and Certificate IV in Youth Work as well as license these are some in many careers that are involved in community service. I dont know what I will do after I leave school however I am only interested in Aged care, Disability services, mental health, and Child care to get a job in these areas I will need to have a driving licence and cert. III OR IV. To get a job in community service I will have to be a caring person with and supportive attitude, good communication skills, patience and discretion, and be physically fit.
In community services injuries a lot of the time come from lifting heavy objects or doing a lot of bending, twisting, or reaching. Things like these may include harmful physical handling, which can lead to musculoskeletal illnesses like sprains and strains on the back and shoulders.
The most common problems and hazards in community service workplaces are.
- physical hazards which include slips, trips, falls, experiencing loud noises, working from height
- Ergonomic Hazards
Ergonomic hazards occur as a consequence of physical issues that can harm the musculoskeletal system. This type of hazard is not easily known, examples of this hazard are poor lighting, repetitive motion, awkward movements, and poor attitude.
- Chemical Hazards
Chemical hazards currently happen anytime workers are showing chemical materials including cleaning solutions and solvents, smoke, carbon monoxide, and any other gases.
- Biological Hazards
Healthcare specialists are at the most risk for this type of hazard. Biological hazards happen due to working with people, animals, or infectious plant material. Examples include blood or other bodily fluids, physical care, insect bites, bacteria, or viruses.
To do a personal budget that suits me I have to work out how much I get paid every fortnight, how much I send and serve.
