Chromosome Segregation in Mitosis and Meiosis Modeling Mitosis (4 points)
Model out the phases of the cell cycle using the Play-Doh or other modeling material. Take an image of each phase that you can assemble into a single picture at the end of the exercise. Use a different color Play-Doh for each component listed below. Label and keep track of the following cell components:
1. 2 homologous chromosomes
2. Centrosomes
3. Microtubules
4. Centromeres
5. Cell membrane
6. Nuclear membrane
Once you have images of each phase, assemble the images into a single slide to show the progression of your model.
Modeling Meiosis (4 points)
Model out the phases of the meiosis using Play-Doh or other modeling material. If you don’t have any, draw the process. Take an image of each phase that you can assemble into a single picture at the end of the exercise. Use a different color Play-Doh for each component listed below. Label and keep track of the following cell components:
1. 2 homologous chromosomes
2. Centrosomes
3. Microtubules
4. Centromeres
5. Cell membrane

You’ll have two “pathways” when you are done: one that depicts mitosis and one that depicts meiosis. Note: Not all phases of mitosis and meiosis are pictured.
On the next page there are terms or statements that apply to either mitosis or meiosis. Sort those out into a mitosis group and a meiosis group.
