Cardi B is an American rapper who rose to fame in 2017 and has been known for sharing a lot of her personal life on social media platforms. On November 14th, 2021, she posted a mirror selfie on Twitter, showcasing her grown-out hair, saying it is the result of being consistent with her hair care routine. She revealed being scared of losing hair after her second pregnancy, which is an issue with new mothers and, thus, making sure to put extra effort into keeping up with the grooming. However, Cardi has received some questionable comments in response to this tweet, since later she turned to Instagram to post herself with different natural hairstyles throughout the years and captions explaining her concerns. Rapper complained that every time she posted herself with natural hair, she heard that since she is mixed, it is supposed to be long, which, as she noted, is not true and very misleading.

That seems to be one of the common misconceptions about mixed peoples appearances, which puzzles Cardi. She is a daughter to a Dominican father and an Afro-Trinidadian mother, and while it is true that mixed-race hair is different from African hair, a combination of factors influences the way it looks. Cardi pointed out that being mixed does not necessarily equal having long and curly hair to quote her, that wasnt my case. She continued by saying that she had issues managing her hair since she was a child and having access to neither quality hair products nor opportunities to frequent salons did not help the case either. Cardi then talked about how having better options and resources on the Internet improved the situation and resulted in her growing her hair out today. She concluded by stating that there is no such thing as bad hair and that a certain texture does not mean good since all hair is good. Given these points, this controversy is a reason for some people to reevaluate their biases and learn to abstain from unsolicited commentaries on social media and in life.
