An Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) should complete his or her graduate-level education in an attempt to acquire appropriate skills for effective healthcare delivery (Hain and Fleck 6). I am currently focusing on the most appropriate practices that can support my program goals. Such activities are undertaken to develop the core competencies outlined by the AACN and the NONPF. The major activities undertaken are highlighted below.

Core Competencies

Role Delineation based on NP Competencies Supporting Evidence
  1. Management of Patient Health/Illness Status
The class readings have outlined some of the best practices for managing different health conditions. We have engaged in a number of discussions and class assignments. Such activities explain how nurse practitioners (NPs) can diagnose various diseases and offer appropriate medications (Shaw and Degazon 47). I have undertaken various clinical roles. I have gained new experiences that make it easier for me to address the health needs of more patients.
  1. NP-Patient Relationship
NPs should be ready to establish meaningful relationships with their patients. The class materials and discussions have outlined various concepts that can produce the best patient-caregiver relationships. For instance, NPs should communicate, mentor, support, and empower their clients. Patients should also be encouraged to be part of every disease management process (Patterson and Krouse 79). My clinical practices have made it easier for me to establish the best patient-NP relationships. The class lectures have outlined a number of skills towards improving this core competence. Such skills include involvement, empowerment, and the use of nursing concepts.
  1. Teaching-Coaching Function
The ultimate goal of nursing is to deliver evidence-based care to different patients (Lazarte 101). NPs should therefore be ready to empower their patients using appropriate teaching and coaching practices. I have managed to teach and empower my patients using different posters. I have outlined several teaching processes depending on the needs of my patients. Most of the patients acquired new concepts for managing their health conditions. As well, the information is relevant because it ensures the targeted individuals can eventually have good health outcomes. My colleagues have also encouraged me to support the needs of diverse populations using appropriate coaching practices.
  1. Professional Role
NPs should exhibit the highest level of professionalism. I have always attended various BON meetings. I have interacted with different leaders to improve my competencies. I understand the importance of delivering timely care (Klein 4). I have read a wide range of materials and publications in order to improve my skills as an ARPN.
  1. Negotiating HC Delivery Systems
I have attended a number of forums such as the Lambda Chi Meeting. The CMS meeting equipped me with new ideas about my clinical practices. I embraced the relevance of different HC delivery systems. I also learned much about the importance of Meaningful Usein healthcare (Stanley 246). I also befriended new physicians and practitioners. This movie explains how I have expanded my network of healthcare practitioners.
  1. Monitoring/ Ensuring Quality of HC
NPs should always offer competent care to their patients (Patterson and Krouse 78). I have engaged in different quality improvement (QI) activities and magnet offerings. I have gained new skills about the role of malpractice insurance. I will always remain accountable, ethical, and professional in my practice.
  1. Cultural Competence
The class materials have helped me understand the importance of delivering culturally-competent care. Practitioners should respect the medical views and beliefs of their clients (Klein 5). I am also planning to read more research articles in order to become a provider of culturally-competent care.
