About the book of Hebrews, Ehrman and Mendez write, “…the Christian author of Hebrews, whether he himself was Jewish or not, claimed that Christ fulfilled the Old Testament revelation and that his followers were the true people of God… In this sense, the Christian religion was continuous with, but ultimately superior to, the religion of non-Christian Judaism” (p. 489)
This position of superiority is sometimes called “exclusivism.” Christian exclusivists believe that Christianity is the only religion that offers truth and salvation.
Two other positions for how people of different religions should regard each other have also been proposed.
Inclusivism: Christian inclusivists believe that other religions can offer truth and salvation, but Christianity offers truth and salvation in a “uniquely superior way,”*
Pluralism: Christian pluralists believe that other religions can offer truth and salvation, and no religion, including Christianity, does so in a way that is superior to any other religion.
Write at least one full paragraph (minimum 5 to 6 sentences) on the following question:”When encountering other religions, I believe the best way to present one’s own religion is from a position of___________________” (choose one: exclusivism, inclusivism or pluralism). Explain your answer.
