Abortion has been a controversial topic globally for many decades. The side of the argument an individual chooses to support depends on many factors, one of them being whether he or she considers the unborn fetus a human being or merely a collection of cells. Many of the people that oppose abortion are those affiliated with a religion, who tend to believe that any life, even an unborn one, is sacred. However, not every person that advocates against abortion is religious and, furthermore, there are more arguments that take place within the supporting camp. Most states and countries that have legalized abortion have different laws on how late it can be performed. However, there is no universal law on the legality of abortion or the conditions under which it can be done.

In the US, with many left-wing social policies gaining popularity over the past few decades, many states have now passed a bill that allows women to terminate their pregnancies. Many of the rulings have stemmed from the 1973 Roe v Wade case on abortion, which legalized abortion nationwide (Guardian Staff and Agencies, 2021). However, recently the Mississippi state has been pushing for the case to be overturned by the US Supreme Court, which would leave the legalization of abortion to individual states (Guardian Staff and Agencies, 2021). According to some of the supporters of this legislative action, half of US states would ban abortion altogether if Roe versus Wade was overturned (Guardian Staff and Agencies, 2021).

Although it is difficult to verify the exact numbers of the supporters of this claim, it is a thought-provoking case. It seems that unlike 30-40 years ago, when people were advocating for progressive thinking, society is now choosing to go back to traditions (Lund, Janssen, Pfannestiel, Corbett & Vickery, 2003). However, today people have more access to instant publicity through the Internet.
