Artifacts
People surround themselves with objects which reveal their cultural background and identity. People live in society and they are brought up by some rules and values, which are represented by numerous objects (Sole, 2011). For example, my friend has a baseball in his room. This object occupies a central place in his room. It is necessary to note that the ball only has sentimental value as it is very old and rather worn-out. My friend got that ball during a game when he was in his early teens. That day he won and the ball reminds him of his great victory.
The artifact suggests that the man was brought up in the US society where baseball is valued. My friend is also sentimental as he still has the ball. When I learned about it, I did not change my attitude towards my friend, but I know that he is sentimental and quite sensitive.
An artifact that can tell a lot about me is my e-book which is often on my bed-side table or near my favorite chair. This object suggests that I love books and love reading. It also unveils my readiness to use the latest technology. It does not reveal my cultural background, but it can tell a lot about my identity. Griffin and Bone (2013) note that artifacts are things people use to communicate certain information about themselves. My e-book shows that I like to know more.
I would like to state that I like the way this artifact represents me. I think it reveals two of my features. I love reading and I am ready to use innovations to make my life easier. I think I sometimes take my e-book with me and read in public places because I try to use any minute to read and I am not ashamed of my passion and want to show everybody that I am an intelligent person.
Body Systems
The distal convoluted tubule is a part of the kidney nephron. It participates in the process of blood filtering and regulates the level of pH, sodium, and other chemicals (Marieb and Hoehn, 2014). The fluid goes from the loop of Henle through the distal convoluted tubule to the collecting duct system.
Glomerular filtration is a process that is a part of blood filtering and the formation of urine (Boundless, 2013). Blood is cleaned out from plasma in the kidneys. Blood travels through numerous capillaries in the kidneys. Blood is filtrated during this process and plasma contents decrease.
Intracellular fluid (ICF) is fluid inside cells. It is important as the majority of chemical reactions (associated with metabolism) occur in this fluid though some reactions take place in cellular membranes (Marieb and Hoehn, 2014). Another function of this fluid is to transport chemicals within the cell.
The proximal convoluted tubule is between the Bowmans capsule and the Loop of Henle. It regulates the level of pH and secrets of some organic acids (Marieb and Hoehn, 2014). It is characterized by the brush border which helps the proximal convoluted tubule fulfill its function.
The thirst mechanism helps to achieve fluid balance in the organism. It occurs when there is a lack of fluids and an increase in such elements as salt (Marieb and Hoehn, 2014). Thus, the mechanism helps regulate the level of fluid in the organism as well as within cells. Lack of fluid negatively affects the organism as nutrients cannot be transported to parts where they are needed.
