Analysis of the Article

The phenomenon of Savant Syndrome is studied by many psychologists and scholars in this field. The article under consideration is called Inside the mind of a Savant and is written by Darold Trefferd and Daniel Christensen (2006). The paper is dedicated to a comprehensive study of this phenomenon on the example of Kim Peek, a savant, who possesses extraordinary memory. Regarding that, the authors try to analyze the syndrome and to find out the nature of those phenomenal abilities.

To start with, the authors scanned a physical state of the patient. Hence, Peek has serious problem with musculoskeletal system but instead he could memorized enormous volumes of information from various field of study. In this respect, the authors intended to figure out why such ability as calculating and memorizing occur oftener among savants. Further, the researchers planned to uncover the connection between the brain structure and psychological deviations of the mind in order to understand ho the brain functions.

Further, the authors of the article tried to define the Savant Syndrome as the compensation for the damages a brain undergoes. In Peeks case, corpus callosum was replaced by the brilliant memory abilities. Regarding that, the article studies the skills development pertaining to social environment and the way it influences Peeks ability in memorizing music. They tried to explain the phenomenon and find the difference between the normal brain and Peeks brain.

In conclusion, the paper is of significant importance for the scientists since savant people are widespread all over the world and require special treatment and condition for living. Moreover, the article enlarges on the issues of savants application so that people with some psychological deviations would not feel isolated from society.
