Summary of Text:
In her article Mother tongue, Amy Tan shares her views on different forms of English and their impact on the life of people, especially immigrants. She raises the problem of the limitations of their activities connected with the language barrier (Tan, 1990). In the article, Amy describes the struggles of the first Asian immigrants who failed to adapt to the new language fully. She also mentions the role of other people in the formation of personality of a child from an immigrant family. The author refers to her personal experience at school, considering discrimination against immigrant children in the choice of their future occupation.
Why do you find the topic of this essay or the history of this topic interesting?
My interest in the topic is defined by the existence of the issues described by Amy Tan in the present-day world. Indeed, modern immigrants are still struggling with the language and sometimes are discriminated on account of their origin.
What do you feel about this topic? Do you have any personal connections to this topic?
I feel that there is a need for a change in the attitude of people towards children from immigrant families to provide them with more opportunities in life. Even though I have no personal connections to the topic, I admit its importance to the society.
What do you think most people believe about this topic?
Most people do not think about the existing disparities as they do not face them on a daily basis. Only people from immigrant families can fully understand the message of the author.
Who is the intended audience?
People from immigrant families who struggle with the language. Teachers who tend to discriminate against immigrant students rather than help them to adjust.
What message or goal, if any, is the text trying to convey?
The goal of the article is to demonstrate by personal example the opportunity to overcome the challenges of new language acquisition.
Do you think the author is credible? Why or why not?
The author is credible due to the fact that she narrates about her personal experience using effective writing skills.

There were three best ideas that occurred during the free writing exercise; the first one refers to the necessity of a language mentor for immigrants who have issues with language barriers. It might be reasonable to provide these immigrants with such kind of support that lies in everyday easy conversations on various themes via calls, texting, and real-life meetings. Tan depicted the immigrants problems in such a manner that I fully realized the fact that they need the described help.

The second idea is about the conditions that should be given to immigrant children at schools. I suppose that their curricular is to include some extra classes on the English language at least, during the first year of adaptation. However, in order not to make it unfair, teachers of other disciplines may give them less homework than others. The article presented Tans awful personal experience, so I understood that the conditions at a school are to be changed.

Finally, the third idea is related to the impact that authorities may put on citizens regarding their attitude to immigrants. Governments can conduct a number of public companies and create some TV shows that would reveal the language hardships faced by immigrants. It might have a good influence on society, as well as encourage people to support immigrants in their language struggle during the process of adaptation.

I might assume that the article contains a number of notable and relevant issues that should be covered during the investigation. Thus, they have to be highlighted in the thesis statement appropriately. It might be as follows, In this paper, founding the arguments on the article of Amy Tan, problems that come from language barriers with the emphasis on the related immigrants hardships will be discussed.
