The signing of the Versailles treaty was done on the 28th of June 1919 at the Versailles Palace. It is one of the critical pacts in history since it helped end World War I. According to the reports from the sessions, Germany was treated unfairly since it was the only nation punished and accused of being the cause of the war. Making matters worse, Germany was not invited to take part in the proceedings. The treaty was successful because it was able to attain its expectations. As a result, peace did prevail for a while. Germany was forced to accept and follow the terms of the treaty, like surrendering all her colonies to Britain and France. In addition to that, Germany was forced to pay millions of pounds as compensation for losses in the war.
Although the treaty was meant to bring peace to the world, it also failed in many ways. Firstly, Germany was not allowed to participate in the conference. Secondly, its sessions only favored major allied powers and presented their agendas. Thirdly, it allowed France to avenge Germany; hence, favoring only one side, and which was the allied powers. Fourthly, the treaty failed to prevent another war and instead caused the rise of Hitler and the Second World War.
