Introduction

The journal in question is Journal of Research in Nursing, and it dwells upon a variety of issues related to research in the nursing practice. It includes articles that highlight different aspects of research in nursing. Thus, the journal is a platform for sharing ideas on ways to implement research and ways to deal with different nursing problems. Therefore, it will definitely contain a significant number of articles on physical activity of obese people as well as barriers to their physical activity.

The journal accepts articles contain results of research and reviews of research concerning a wide range of nursing issues. The papers should comply with the following requirements. They should include such elements as title, authors credentials, abstract, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion and key points (Journal of Research in Nursing, 2016). The abstract should contain 200 words or less.

Research Steps

The journal in question does not have any specific requirements for the structure of the abstract, so the suggested elements will be addressed.

Problem statement

The lack of activity in obese peoples lives contributes to the deterioration of their health conditions. It has been acknowledged that physical activity can significantly improve the quality of life of these people. However, obese people are often reluctant to engage in physical activity due to various reasons. It is important to identify the barriers to these peoples participation in physical activities, which will enable nurses to encourage patients to have healthier lifestyles.

Purpose of the project

The purpose of the project is to identify barriers to engaging in physical activity as seen by obese people. These data can be used to develop educational programs for patients that nursing professionals (especially community nurses) can deliver.

Research question

What are major barriers to obese peoples engagement in physical activity from their viewpoint?

Hypothesis

The major reasons for the lack of physical activity in obese peoples lives are health conditions (for example, fatigue) and the lack of time.

Methodology

To address the research question and check the hypothesis, it is possible to carry out a survey. People whose BMI is over 30kg/m2 will complete questionnaires. The participants will be recruited during their visits to a local healthcare facility. The questionnaires will include questions concerning their height, weight, gender, amount of time they devote to any types of physical activity, major barriers to engaging in physical activity (these will include lack of time, health condition, traumas, lack of money, their own ideas).

Results

The hypothesis proved to be true as obese people see health conditions and lack of time primary barriers while 40% of participants also added (through Your Ideas option) they did not have enough money to attend sports clubs or even workout in parks or at home as they had to work long hours and balance their work and family life.

Conclusions

The analysis of the primary barriers shows that nursing professionals should encourage obese people to have more active lifestyles and provide solutions to address the major barriers identified.

Impact

The problem has received certain attention, and some barriers have already been examined, but there is still no clear understanding of the most common barriers obese people single out (McIntosh, 2016). This research fills in this gap and can be used as a background for the development of educational programs that will be used to encourage obese people to have more active lifestyles.
