One of the first steps toward effective listening is understanding various barriers to listening and developing listening skills that can be practiced and improved. Write a 3-4 page application paper where you discuss the importance, guidelines and application of active listening. Use the following instructions develop the paper: Label your paper Part 1 and Part 2 Part I: Importance of Active Listening: Give a thorough definition of active listening and discuss why you believe it is essential when making meaningful conversations. What are some differences in hearing and listening? Identify and discuss at least four (4) critical listening skills or responses that can be used to demonstrate effective listening. Explain why it is important to develop good listening skills and be actively involved in practicing and applying them when communicating. Part 2: Active Listening Techniques: Provide a brief evaluation summary of your own listening skills. Do you consider yourself a good listener? Why or why not? Which skill(s) do you utilize the most when trying to listen effectively? Why? Which skill(s) do you need the most help on for improvement? Why? Provide a summary with action steps of how you will work on improving and enhancing your listening skills.
