1. You will prepare a Community Diversity Education presentation on a specific topic related to diversity that is suitable to be delivered to a community audience that you will identify to a school-based audience of students, parents or teachers in a social work perspective. Your presentation
· Be intended to last 30 minutes.
· Include 3-4 appropriate learning goals. (What should attendees take away from this?)
· Educate your audience at an appropriate level about what you think is important for them to know about the topic on which you are presenting. The information must be of practical use to your audience.
· Address all pertinent issues related to diversity and difference.
· Be attractive, engaging and professionally prepared (e.g. no slides filled with text, no quotes of more than a few words).
· Be grounded in empirical research on your topic.
· Be grounded in social justice, social work ethics, and our commitment to eliminating oppression
2. Your presentation should include 10 meaningful slides and submit the detail notes that you would use to deliver the presentation. (or their equivalent in an alternative format).
For example, if a bullet on your slide read “What do we mean by White Privilege?”, your notes would contain the information you intend to deliver about that point. These notes may be in bullet form, but must cover the entire presentation. Notes should also specify the sources (at least 5) from the SCHOLARLY literature that you used to inform your presentation. APA format applies here.
a. Note: General internet sources are NOT ACCEPTABLE. Use of them will be penalized. Electronic sources from organizations such as the U.S. Census Bureau and the Southern Poverty Law Center are acceptable but may represent no more than two (2) of your sources.
3. You will prepare and submit a 2 page reflection that guides the reader through your presentation addressing your rationale for choosing the topic and audience, learning goals, and content you include, as well as the way it speaks to social work values and practice. (Use of first-person voice is permissible.)
